Rats use the sewer as a road.
Rats move through drainage systems and get into homes and premises through holes, cracks and old or disused connections in the pipes. Buried inspection chambers and defective manholes give them places to hide and nest. Left alone it becomes a serious infestation, with consequences for health and, in a commercial premises, for the business.
Our CCTV surveying equipment finds the hidden defects underground that conventional methods miss. From there we repair the problem area and fit protection so they cannot return. Where there is an active infestation to deal with, we partner with reputable pest control specialists.
The Ratflap
DrainCo supplies and installs the Ratflap, an Irish-manufactured one-way valve recognised internationally for keeping vermin out of drainage systems. Waste flows out, the flap closes behind it, and nothing comes back up. Installed correctly it lasts for years without affecting flow. On properties with several drainage runs we survey first to work out the most strategic placements.
Signs you have a drain rat problem
- Scratching or movement under floors or in walls
- Droppings near drains, chambers or the kitchen
- A rat in the toilet bowl
- Sinking ground or a chamber lid that has moved
- Recurring smells with no obvious cause

Poison has not worked. Why?
Because new rats keep arriving through the same broken pipe. Until the entry point is found and closed, pest control is treating the symptom.
How much is a rat flap?
The flap itself is a modest cost; the survey to place it correctly is what makes it work. Ring for a fixed price for both.
Will a rat flap block my drain?
Not when it is fitted correctly. It opens with the flow and closes behind it. We check it on camera after fitting.
Do you deal with the rats already inside?
We close the way in and repair the drain. For an active infestation we bring in reputable pest control partners.
